Communities need to take action on their own behalf to care effectively for mothers and children, but collective decision-making requires confidence, skills, organisational structures and knowledge.
Women and Children First works with partners in Africa and Asia to build on and strengthen the abilities of local people to reduce maternal and newborn mortality by:
- strengthening the capacity of communities to organise, demand and advocate for appropriate services
- helping health care workers who provide reproductive, maternal and newborn services to develop the skills and knowledge to meet the demand for quality care.
This is delivered in collaboration with our partner organisations in the South. We support their work in reducing maternal and newborn mortality and improving the wellbeing of women, children and newborns by providing technical assistance and securing funding.
