Run for Women and Children First, and help mothers and babies survive and thrive. Lola Ornato, a midwife in London, explains why she is running 5k this August.
“At the age of 6 my Dad moved our family to Nigeria. I came back to England at the age of 19 and soon decided that I wanted to become a midwife.
In my final year of training I chose to do an elective placement in Nigeria and was saddened to see the conditions in which women gave birth.
"However, I was also able to witness the benefits of empowering women by providing them with good health education.
"I have always wanted to do something in my capacity as a midwife to improve maternity care for women in developing countries.
“I believe everyone has the right to good healthcare; and feel extremely passionate about access to good maternity care.”
Running and raising money for Women and Children First will mean that more lives can be saved across the world. Lola adds:
“Empowerment and education is at the core of the values of Women and Children first which is why I am so happy to support them.
“Doing this run is a lovely way for me to help make a difference in a small way.
"I am definitely not a natural born runner so this is going to be quite the challenge for me!
"I hope you will support me in whatever way you can and help me raise some money for this wonderful charity.”
